Thesis

The number of young people in care is large and growing more than 90 young people are taken into care in the UK every day. Keeping children in care is also very expensive for local authorities, so there is a strong case for helping children who are on the edge of care to remain with their families, should that be possible.

Investment

We are supporting a project Stronger Families Suffolk, which supports young people at risk of being taken into care or in care due to abuse or neglect, providing them (and their family) with access to a proven therapeutic programme designed to help the family address behavioural and emotional issues.

Target Outcomes

Stronger Families Suffolk supports adolescents at risk of being taken into care or in care, providing them (and their family) with access to a proven therapeutic programme designed to help them address behavioural and emotional issues, built on a foundation of acceptance and respect. The programme is aiming to work with c. 245 young people over a 3-year period (with a further 2 year tracking period thereafter). It will look to prevent young people from entering into care, and for those averted from care, increase the time they spend out of care.
