Thesis

In the UK, children in care must leave local authority care by their 18th birthday. Leaving care is a crucial transition, and one where outcomes can deteriorate rapidly due to poor-quality support. There is a strong need to enable care leavers to receive high quality services that meet their needs and support them make the transition into adulthood.

Investment

We are supporting a project called Bristol DfE Care Leavers, a project that helps care leavers into education and employment in and around Bristol. Reboot West will work with approximately 250 care leavers over 4 years across Bristol, Bath and North East Somerset, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. The project is a partnership between 1625 Independent People, a leading voluntary sector provider of services to young people leaving care and at risk of homelessness in the South West who specialise in providing support services for young people to help them into accommodation, employment and education. Project finance and project management support is provided from Bridges.

Target Outcomes

Reboot West aims to support care leavers into and to sustain education, training and employment opportunities while fostering their stability and well-being. The programme has achieved 254 education outcomes, including 48 care leavers completing Level 1, Level 2 or Level 3 qualifications, and 206 employment outcomes.
