Thesis

Due to a combination of cuts to services across, a lack of social housing, and changes to the housing benefit system, homelessness within the UK is rising. In particular, Homelessness within Kirklees has increased by 80% over the last 3 years. By helping people in need secure stability with accommodation and employment opportunities, we can make reductions to the increasing numbers of homelessness, as well as prevent cost saving to services like the NHS.

Investment

We are supporting a programme Kirklees Better Outcomes Partnership, supporting vulnerable people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless to live independently. KBOP helps those in need to secure or maintain suitable accommodation, improve their health & well-being, and to develop the skills they need to live independently. Each participant is guided by a support worker that tailors the support to the needs of each participant needs.

Target Outcomes

By securing stable accommodation, individuals are prevented from going onto worse outcomes, including rough sleeping, resulting in better well-being and employment outcomes for the individual as well as cost savings to Kirklees and other commissioners. Since launching in September, KBOP has supported 1,203 vulnerable people this year.
