Each year in the UK, thousands of children are awaiting adoption. Around 3,500 children have been waiting 18 months or more. Research shows that if a child grows up in the care system, they are less likely to succeed at school and less likely to find a job as an adult. To achieve more positive life outcomes, there is a pressing need to find positive family environments for children that are ‘harder to place’, so that they don’t grow up in the care system.

We are supporting a programme called It’s All About Me (IAAM). IAAM is a nationwide scheme to find and train adoptive families for harder to place children. The IAAM programme is delivered by seven organisations: Action for Children; Adoption Matters NW; After Adoption; Caritas Care; Family Futures, PACT and South London & Maudsley NHS. Project finance and project management support is provided from Bridges.

Target Outcomes

IAAM aims to give children a greater chance of better long-term outcomes than if they had remained in the care system. To date, 21 children have been
placed with a families. 17 of these placements have been stable for at least two years.
